Meet Faustina and Anastasia, a family originally from Nigeria, whose homeowner journey with Requity Homes started in Sault Ste. Marie.

After coming to Canada for school, the sisters eventually decided to look for a home in Sault Ste. Marie with the plan of staying in Canada long-term. Faustina is currently a full-time student and a part-time sales associate, and their father is working full-time back in Nigeria.

Facing International Struggles

Despite having stable income from their father, traditional mortgages were a challenge due to a combination of the father’s employment being with a Nigerian company, and a lower credit score. Staying hopeful, Faustina and Anastasia found Requity Homes and began the rent-to-own program for a 2-year term.

Following a plan set by Requity Homes, the family puts away a small portion of their rent each month, steadily saving towards their down payment goal. Requity Homes is also helping them with credit coaching, as they are building up their credit score for a mortgage to purchase back the home in the future.

Still going through the rent-to-own program with Requity Homes, Faustina and Anastasia are looking to purchase back the home within 2 years. The property, nestled on the west side of Sault Ste. Marie, has been perfect for the young family to connect with the city, access schooling, and settle down. As Faustina and Anastasia continuing investing their time and effort into their home, the property continues to flourish, building potential equity.
